What could I get for this?

Describe something you own and this tells you which swap band it lands in — which is to say, what else on the site you could walk away with. It is the real valuation engine, running in your browser.

What have you got?

What you could get for it

low confidence
Band 4–8£50–650

Something like that, in good condition, swaps for anything else in Band 4–8 — roughly the £50–650 shelf, though nobody here quotes a figure and no money changes hands either way.

That is a wide answer and it is the honest one. You have given us one number about one thing, so claiming a single band would be false precision. Open the panel below and watch it close as real evidence goes in.

This rests on nothing but what you told us it cost. On a real listing it would be labelled as such, it would carry a fraction of the weight of a price we checked, and a swap made on it teaches the model nothing — two people agreeing with each other's guesses is not evidence about the world.

Now add what we would already know

Your one number is the weakest evidence there is, which is why the answer above is wide. These are the other things the cascade blends in when it recognises what you have. Turn them on and watch the range close.

Retail value is not swap value. Something forty people want moves above something nobody does at the same shelf price.

Sandbox arithmetic, done in your browser from the numbers you typed. The platform's own valuation of a real listing never leaves the server as an amount — only the band does.

What completed swaps teach it

Set a true value the model cannot see. It starts at the anchor above and only ever observes that a swap cleared — never a price. Watch the band walk onto the truth, and watch how much slower it is when the thing is small.

Why a band and not a price.

Nothing on barterama is priced and no money moves — a swap is goods for goods, and a value gap closes with another item or not at all. So there is no price to quote you, and quoting one would be answering a question nobody here is asking.

A band is the more useful answer anyway. Twelve of them, spaced logarithmically, so one band apart means roughly the same proportional step at every level. Two things in the same band swap straight across. That is the thing you actually want to know.

A shelf price is the nearest familiar thing, not an offer and not a valuation. Nobody on this site pays anybody.

Is this what my thing is worth?

No, and we are deliberately not the site to ask. It is what your thing swaps for here, against other people's things. That is a different question from what it would resell for, and it is the one this platform is actually in a position to answer.

Why is the answer a range?

Because one number from one person is thin evidence. The engine widens the band when it is unsure, and narrowing that to a single confident band would be a precision we have not earned. Add what the platform already knows and watch it close.

Do I need an account?

No, and there is nothing to sign up to. The maths runs in your browser: no listing, no database, no round trip. You only need an account when you want to actually swap the thing.

What do you do with what I type?

The words in the first box are sent to us on their own with a date, so we know which things people arrive holding and which to cover next. No account, no session, nothing that identifies you — and nothing else on the page leaves your browser at all. The privacy policy says the same thing in full.

Pass it on

Somebody you know has a cupboard full of this.

It costs them nothing, asks for nothing, and answers in a second. The address is right here — take it however you like.

When you want to actually swap it.

List it and the matcher goes to work in both directions at once — things you could get for yours, and people who want what you have.
