Autograph collecting has always run on trades between people who chase different names. Yours is somebody's missing signature and theirs is yours, and the swap is the natural shape of that.
Trading a signature you have for one you want
Provenance is the description. Where it was signed, when, and what came with it: write that down and you have told the next collector everything that matters to them about the piece.
Each signature gets its own listing. This is a hobby of individual names, and somebody searching for one particular signer should arrive at a page about that signature rather than at a group photo of a dozen unrelated ones.
Photograph the signature large and flat, in even light. A clear image of the actual ink does more to make a swap happen than any amount of description around it.
Name the signer, the item it is on and how you came by it. Include any certificate or ticket stub you still have. Then say which names you are collecting, so somebody holding one of them knows to come and find you.
The questions people ask first.
You list a signature you are willing to trade and say which names you are after. We only introduce the two of you when the interest runs both ways, so you are never fielding offers for things you want to keep.
Say exactly what you know and what you have. If it was signed in front of you, say that. If it came with paperwork, photograph the paperwork. Collectors here judge provenance for themselves, and the more you show the easier that is.
Often the item is half the appeal. A signed programme, ticket or instrument tells a story that a plain card cannot, so describe the object as carefully as the signature.
